Sustainable Agriculture at Home of Ayahuasca ecosystem

Nurturing the Land for Future Generations

At Home of Ayahuasca, we are committed to sustainable agriculture practices that prioritize environmental conservation and community empowerment.

Our initiatives include sustainable agroforestry, fish farming, and composting to promote a regenerative agricultural system that supports the health of the land, water and local communities.

Sustainable Agroforestry

We believe that trees are the foundation of a healthy ecosystem.

We have launched a sustainable tree plantation project on an area of 2 hectares. In 2022, we prepared for planting 1 hectare of agricultural land with 1500 seedlings of valuable medical trees and shrubs, such as rosewood, murure, achiote, tauari, chacruna.

These carefully selected native species are well-suited to the local environment and provide habitat for wildlife, prevent erosion, improve soil fertility, and contribute to carbon sequestration, helping to combat climate change and preserve the Amazon rainforest.

This project not only helps to restore the ecological balance of the region, but also creates a sustainable source of valuable resources for the planet. We believe that sustainable agriculture is critical to the long-term well-being of the Amazonian jungle and its communities, and we are committed to promoting permaculture and agroforestry practices to conserve biodiversity and soil health.

Eco Friendly Fish Farming

We are developing sustainable fish farming as a viable alternative to overfishing in the fragile ecosystems of the Amazon River. Our approach is based on the traditional Peruvian method of rearing fish in natural ecosystem ponds, complemented by our own innovative developments.

Traditional Pond Construction for a Self-Sustaining Ecosystem

Our fish pond construction follows the traditional method, utilizing the features of the landscape to create a natural and self-sustaining pond ecosystem. We carefully select native species of herbivorous, carnivorous, and bottom fish, including Sabalo, Tucunare, Yaraki, Carachama, and Paiche, which are well-adapted to the local environment.

Our goal is to establish a harmonious balance within the pond, allowing the fish to thrive in their natural habitat.

Our fish farming practices aim to improve the health of fish populations, provide the community with a sustainable source of protein, and support local biodiversity conservation efforts.

Conservation of Endangered Aquatic Turtles

As part of our commitment to biodiversity conservation, we also breed endangered aquatic turtles in our fish pond as part of our Amazonian jungle biodiversity project. This initiative aims to contribute to the preservation of these vulnerable species and restore their populations in their natural habitat.
When you come to our retreat, you can visit our delightful pond surrounded by jungle and contemplate the fish, turtles and water lilies.

Composting

We utilize composting as a natural way to enrich the soil and reduce waste. Organic waste from our retreat center and kitchen is composted, creating nutrient-rich soil that is used in our gardens and tree plantation initiatives. Composting helps to close the loop in our food production system, eliminating the need for synthetic fertilizers and minimizing our environmental footprint.

Education and Outreach

We are committed to raising awareness about the importance of sustainable agriculture and its positive impact on the environment and communities. We provide educational programs for our guests, local communities, and staff to promote sustainable agriculture practices, share knowledge about regenerative farming techniques, and foster a deep appreciation for the interconnection between food, people, and the environment.
